Breeding Older Mares

There are a lot of people that have performance horses that do not get bred year after year.

A friend of ours has a barrel horse that she has been racing. This mare is 14 and she is thinking of breeding her now for the first time. I have heard of mares living well into their 20's and some 30's still giving birth and doing a good job at it. Some say that giving birth is actually what keeps them alive and going year after year.

This article gives John Lyons' view on breeding older mares.
